Start and charge systems

General information

Systems of start and charge are the main components of system of electric equipment of the engine. As work of data of systems is directly connected with engine functioning, they are considered separately from other onboard electric equipment, such as lighting devices, monitors etc. to which Head Onboard electric equipment is devoted separately. Information on system of ignition of petrol models is stated in the section ignition System - petrol models. The system of preheat of diesel engines is considered in the section preheat System - diesel models.

The rated voltage of onboard power supply of the car equals 12 V.Zazemleniye is organized on a negative pole.
Not needing storage battery placed in the tight case service which additional charge is made from the generator of an alternating current with a belt drive from a pulley of a cranked shaft enters into a standard complete set of all models.

The starter is executed according to the scheme with preliminary gearing and equipped with the built-in traction relay. At engine start the plunzher of the relay moves into position and enters a leading gear wheel of a starter into gearing with a gear wreath of a flywheel till food giving on the device electromotor. The leading gear wheel of a starter is equipped with the obgonny coupling providing protection of the electromotor from a provorachivaniye at excess with turns of the engine of admissible value.

Precautionary measures

Detailed information on a principle of functioning and service of various components of systems is provided below in appropriate sections of Head. At refusal of any components their replacement is usually made.

At service of components of systems of electric equipment it is necessary to observe special precautionary measures in order to avoid risk of failure of semi-conductor elements, and also for the purpose of prevention of receiving traumas.

Starting electric equipment service, surely remove a watch, rings and other metal ornaments. Even at the disconnected battery the category of condensers by casual grounding of their plugs can lead to receiving electric shock or a strong burn.

Do not allow polarity violation at battery connection. In structure of such components as the generator or electronic control units enter semi-conductor elements which can be put out of action at the wrong connection of wires.

At performance of start of the engine from the external power supply, or charger connection also observe polarity of connection of wires (see appropriate section in Introduction).

Never disconnect electroconducting from the battery, the generator or the diagnostic equipment at the working engine.

Do not allow a provorachivaniye the engine of the disconnected generator.

At all do not make stock-taking of a target signal of the generator by grounding of its plugs.

Do not apply to conductivity stock-taking in a chain the ohmmeters equipped manual dynamo car.

At performance of any works on service of electric equipment watch, that the negative wire was disconnected from the battery.

Before use of electroarc welding without fail disconnect the battery, the generator and such components, as food/ignition ECU systems in order to avoid risk of their damage.

Citroёn Xantia entering into a standard complete set an automobile audiosystem is equipped with the built-in coded blokirator providing protection of a radio tape recorder from use by thieves. Protection works even at short-term shutdown of an onboard food.
