Safety cushion - the general information, precautionary measures and system deactivation

General information

The driver's safety cushion enters into a standard complete set of some models, on others can be established in addition. The pillow is located under the central overlay of a steering wheel.

Food giving in system is made only at the included ignition, also reserve power supply on a case of break of the main chain however is provided. Operation of the activator occurs on a signal of the sensor of acceleration. Management carries out the electronic block (ECU) which has been built in a steering wheel.

Filling of a safety cushion is made for fractions of a second at operation of gas generators.

Precautionary measures

At service of the car equipped with safety cushions, it is necessary to observe some special precautionary measures:

Precautionary measures of the general order

   a) Never disconnect the storage battery at the working engine;
   b) Before performance of any works on service of the components located nearby from the block of a safety cushion, removal of components of a pillow or carrying out welding works without fail previously деактивируйте system (see below);
   c) At all do not undertake independent attempts of check of a condition of a chain of a pillow with use of any type of the diagnostic equipment;
   d) At operation of a control lamp of a safety cushion, or system refusal at once address for the help in firm service center of the Citroёn company.

The precautionary measures undertaken at service of components of assembly of a safety cushion

   a) Transfer the removed assembly only a pillow up;
   b) Do not cover assembly by hands;
   c) Always hold assembly by a pillow from itself;
   d) Do not undertake attempts of dismantling of a pillow;
   e) Do not drop assembly and try not to shake it;
   f) Do not connect to an assembly chain any diagnostic and other electric devices;
   g) At all do not allow contact of components of assembly from any type solvents.

Ruled storages of the assembly of a safety cushion removed from the car

   a) The assembly removed from the car should be laid in superficial capacity a pillow up;
   b) Do not allow heating of assembly to temperature above 80°С;
   c) Do not allow contact of assembly to an open flame;
   d) Do not try to disassemble a pillow independently;
   e) At all do not establish on the car faulty assembly of a pillow.

Safety cushion deactivation

Deactivation of system is made without fail before performance of any works on service of components of a safety cushion, and also the elements located near assembly:
   a) Switch off ignition;
   b) Take a key from the ignition lock;
   c) Switch off everything consumers of the electric power;
   d) Disconnect a negative wire from the battery;
   e) Zaizoliruyte the negative plug of the battery and a tip of its negative wire in order to avoid their casual short circuit on weight;
   f) Before starting service of components of system wait not less than 1 minute, let's be discharged finally to the condenser.

Safety cushion activation

   a) Make sure that in salon of the car there are no people, near a steering wheel no extraneous subjects are laid. Close all doors and windows;
   b) Make sure that ignition is switched off, then connect a negative wire to the battery;
   c) Open a driver's door and, without entering into salon and without giving a hand over a steering wheel, include ignition - the control lamp of a safety cushion on a steering wheel should join approximately for three seconds, then go out;
   d) Switch off ignition;
   e) If the control lamp does not work, as is described above (see point c), address for consultations to specialists of car-care center.
